Product Description
Slippery Elm (Ulmus rubra) is a medium-sized tree native to North America that usually reaches as high as 40-60 feet tall. In rare cases it grows up to 100 feet tall. The leaves are serrated and their upper surfaces are rough and dark green with a lighter green underside. Slippery elm is characterized by a broad, arching crown, and tiny green flowers surrounded by red-brown hairs.
The inner bark of Slippery Elm contains mucilage, a moistening, lubricating substance that has a long history of traditional use to soothe irritation. Native Americans were known to have used Slippery Elm bark for various purposes including the ease of childbirth, soothing digestive issues like diarrhea as well as topically for minor wounds. Slippery Elm Bark is still commonly used to support healthy GI function, minor skin irritations, and to ease the occasional sore throat due to cough or cold.
Precautions: Slippery Elm may interfere with absorption of orally administered drugs. We recommend that you consult with a qualified healthcare practitioner before using herbal products, particularly if you are pregnant, nursing, or on any medications.
