Product Description
Monkey Shoulder is an exceptionally approachable and versatile Scotch whisky—rich in character yet eminently drinkable, whether neat, on the rocks or as the backbone of elevated cocktails. The blend strikes a sweet-fruity and malty profile that invites both newcomers and experienced drinkers.
Origins & Craftsmanship
Produced by William Grant & Sons in Speyside, Scotland, Monkey Shoulder is a blended malt (formerly “vatted malt”) Scotch whisky crafted from malt whiskies drawn from key Speyside distilleries—traditionally Glenfiddich, The Balvenie and Kininvie. The components are matured in ex-American-bourbon barrels and then carefully married in small batches to achieve consistency of flavour. The name “Monkey Shoulder” is a nod to the old maltmen’s occupational ailment when turning malt by hand.
Critics Reviews
-
Widely lauded for delivering excellent value, Monkey Shoulder is celebrated for its flavour gap between everyday blends and higher-end single malts.
-
Reviewers highlight its mixture of vanilla, honey and citrus peel atop a malt-rich base, with some noting subtle spice and toasted oak.
-
The whisky is frequently recommended both as an easy “entry point” into Scotch and as a cocktail-friendly premium pour.
Tasting Profile
-
Nose: Opens with bright orange zest and fresh citrus, layered with vanilla pod and soft malt sweetness. A gentle waft of baked pear and light spice follows.
-
Palate: Smooth and medium-bodied. Honeyed malt leads, then vanilla cream, a touch of caramel and underlying toast-oak support. Hints of soft clove and nutmeg emerge.
-
Finish: Clean and moderately long. The malt and vanilla linger, followed by light oak spice and a final citrus-twist lift.
