Product Description
Granite Project’s 2022 Beaujolais-Villages is a striking and terroir-driven Gamay that emphasizes both fruit vitality and mineral depth. Because of its granitic soils and winemaking choices (concrete, semi-carbonic fermentation, minimal intervention), it offers a more serious expression than many entry-level Beaujolais. It’s vibrant, slightly earthy, and built for both freshness and character.
Origins & Craftsmanship
-
Producer / Project: Granite Project is a collaboration between Eric Solomon and Marine & Kevin Jandard / Famille Descombe, among others. The Beaujolais-Villages Granite cuvée is one pillar of this multi-region “Granite” series, all rooted in granitic soils.
-
Vineyards & Soils: Vineyards are located just south of Brouilly in the Beaujolais-Villages zone, on sandy, decomposed granite soils. The vineyards are old (about 65 years) and farmed sustainably.
-
Farming / Harvest: The grapes are hand-harvested and fermented with natural yeast, employing a semi-carbonic maceration / fermentation approach in concrete tanks.
-
Aging / Maturation: The wine is aged for 10 months in concrete tanks. A small amount of sulfur (SO₂) is added only just before bottling. The wine is labeled vegan.
-
ABV / Format: The 2022 vintage is labeled at about 13% alcohol.
Tasting Profile

|---|---|
| Appearance / Color | Clear ruby red (medium intensity) |
| Nose / Aroma | Raspberry, strawberry, fresh red forest berries; subtle earth / mushroom notes; citrus peel brightness. |

One tasting note describes it as “juicy red with notes of oranges, raspberries and raw mushrooms. Fresh and gently earthy with a medium body.”
Another source notes that on the nose it’s initially a bit tight, opening into raspberry and strawberry scents, and the palate is described as fleshy with decent weight.
Serving & Pairings
-
Serve: Serve slightly chilled (about 14–16 °C / 57–61 °F). Use a medium-bodied red wine glass to allow aromatics.
-
Pairings:
• Charcuterie, cured meats
• Roasted or grilled poultry (chicken, duck)
• Pork tenderloin or pork belly
• Mushroom dishes, earthy vegetables
• Soft cheeses (Brie, Camembert)
