Help Families Seeking Asylum in Greece Every day, thousands of refugees fleeing war and poverty make dangerous attempts to reach Greece in search of asylum. These families endure long, hazardous journeys, crossing the Mediterranean in overcrowded boats and traveling great distances under difficult conditions. Greece has received refugees from several countries, including South Sudan, Yemen, Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan, hoping to rebuild their lives and find safety in Europe. Upon arriving, families are placed in refugee camps while they await asylum, a process that can take anywhere from months to years. The uprooting of their lives means thousands of children living in refugee camps may miss their opportunity for a quality education. Uncertainty about when they'll be able to attend school, combined with a lack of resources such as food and school supplies, means they often choose to stay in the camps.  Greater Good Charities is working with the Ministry of Education in Greece to distribute backpacks filled with school supplies for refugee children to give them a chance to pursue their education.
