Product Description

A vibrant and elegant rum from El Salvador, the Cihuatán Cinabrio 12 Years channels refined oak-ageing with tropical fruit character. It offers a rich, smooth sipping experience—accessible yet distinct—making it a strong value in the premium rum category.

Origins & Craftsmanship
Produced at the Licorera Cihuatán distillery (founded in 2004 and part of sugar-mill group Ingenio La Cabaña) in El Paisnal, El Salvador, this rum begins with local sugar-cane/molasses sourced from a 100-year-old mill. The spirit is matured for 12 years in American ex-bourbon oak barrels (via a solera-style or extended age process) before bottling. The name “Cinabrio” references the red hue of cinnabar and the Mayan sun god Kinich Ahau, while the brand draws on the local heritage of the ancient city of Cihuatán.

Critics Reviews

  • Reviewers note the rum “delivers plum, caramelised orange peel, pistachio and toasted oak” on the palate, reflecting the long maturation.

  • Brand-notes highlight the rum’s “unmistakable quality” derived from the sugar-cane terroir, handiwork of Salvadoran craft and dedicated ageing.

Tasting Profile

  • Nose: Warm amber colour with orange-red highlights; aromatics of ripe banana, nutmeg, cinnamon, toasted nuts and subtle floral touches.

  • Palate: Tropical fruit leads (banana, ripe mango), followed by coconut, dark honey, roasted nuts, dried fig and vanilla oak. Caramelised orange peel and gentle spice add depth.

  • Finish: Medium-long. Cocoa and dark chocolate notes with the hushed echo of oak tannin, nuts and fruit linger pleasantly.
