Product Description
This 2022 by Ridge Vineyards is a standout Petite Sirah that fuses power and elegance. With deeply concentrated dark fruit, bold structure and finely tuned balance, it stands as a serious red wine with aging potential—but one you can also enjoy earlier if desired.
Origins & Craftsmanship
Crafted from 100 % Petite Sirah grown organically at Ridge’s Lytton Estate in the Dry Creek Valley, this wine comes from vines planted as early as 1901. In an outstanding 2022 vintage, the fruit was harvested in September after a warm, drought-conditioned season, selected from hillside blocks for depth and richness. The wine underwent whole-berry fermentation on native yeasts, followed by complete malolactic conversion. Maturation lasted sixteen months in American oak, including about 20% new barrels with complementary olderage barrels making up the rest—ensuring wood influence is present but well integrated.
Tasting Profile
-
Nose: Very dark, almost inky core. Aromas of black-and-blue berries, blackberry briar, violet petal, a hint of pepper and pencil lead. There’s subtle vanilla-mint and floral lift beneath the richness.
-
Palate: Full-bodied and rich. Layers of black plum, boysenberry, cassis and dark chocolate lead the profile. Mid-palate introduces firm yet fine-grained tannins, anise-spice and a touch of toasted oak. The acidity carries the weight beautifully, keeping the wine lively rather than heavy.
-
Finish: Long and firmly structured. The finish lingers on black fruit, leather, mocha and mineral echo—suggesting good cellar potential while being rewarding now with decanting.
