The Rare, Black Beauty of House Plants

You’ve probably seen ZZ Plants before, but you’ve likely never seen this kind before! A rare find, the Raven ZZ Plant has many of the same characteristics as green ZZ plants but comes in a deep purple-black color.

New foliage emerges as bright green before turning into a dark purple, almost black color. Like the green ZZ plant, it has shiny leaves with rounded edges that feel leathery to the touch.

A shade-loving plant, the Raven ZZ is a house plant that works great for spaces with low light, such as offices and dark corners in the home. It's ideal as a table plant when it’s young and will slowly grow to become a floor plant with its upward growth habit, reaching 1-3 ft. tall.

If you’re a beginner, the Raven ZZ is forgiving and low maintenance, but you'll still want to keep a few things in mind. Originally from Eastern Africa, this succulent that can suffer from sun-scald with too much light, as well as root rot from overwatering. It's poisonous to humans and animals, so it should be kept away from small children and pets.

For a rare and exquisite house plant unlike any other, you can do no better than the Raven ZZ - order yours today!

Planting & Care

1. Planting: The best place for your ZZ Plant is near an east-facing window free from drafts. When you're ready to plant, select a pot approximately 12 to 14 inches in diameter and use well-draining soil. Also, make sure your pot has proper drainage holes.

Tip: You can place your pot on top of a base with stones to prevent spills and allow for proper moisture containment.

2. Watering: Allow the top layer of the soil to dry out completely between watering. When dry, water deeply until the water begins to drain. Check your soil about 3 inches down for dryness and repeat the watering process as needed.

3. Fertilizing: Start fertilizing at the beginning of the growing season in April with a succulent fertilizer. Follow the instructions on the package and stop fertilizing around August.
