Stercus is a mysterious blend of spices, smoky incense and musk- not for the faint of heart. A playful invocation of that eternally romantic, oft-used flower, jasmine, Stercus connects the dots between this idealized bloom and its indolic affiliates. What seems initially sweet and slightly chocolate in terms of depth and texture slowly begins to crumble and complicate. As it meets skin, Stercus grows dense and disparate. On the one hand we experience the deeply earthen, mineral funk of jasmine and the fertile soil that supports it. Simultaneously we sense this flower (or effect) is soapy, like a stream of clean satin that is regal and bewitching yet imperfect; perhaps a stain of mildew or a drag of oil besmirches its spotless reputation. As Stercus grows more ?dirty' it's perfect or conventional beauty repurposed and reinvented, this fragrance becomes more interesting, and frankly more beautiful than when it was a dulcet, gleaming scent. Like a trick of the light, Stercus reveals itself to be slightly monstrous but this scented experience is never frightening or overwhelming.
