Opticrom Hayfever Eye Drops contain Sodium Cromoglicate 2% w/v, a mast cell stabiliser that works by preventing the release of histamine in the eye tissue. When pollen or other hayfever triggers come into contact with the eyes, the body releases histamine, which causes the characteristic itching, redness, soreness and watering associated with hayfever. By stabilising mast cells and blocking this histamine release before symptoms develop, Sodium Cromoglicate addresses the underlying allergic response rather than simply masking the symptoms. For best results, treatment should be started before the hayfever season begins and continued throughout the season. The drops are applied four times daily to maintain a steady protective effect. The product is for the relief of hayfever eye symptoms only if symptoms are thought to be caused by other allergens such as pet dander or dust mites, a doctor or pharmacist should be consulted before use. Do not use if you are allergic to Sodium Cromoglicate or any of the other ingredients. Not suitable for children under 6 years of age. Do not use whilst wearing soft contact lenses. The preservative Benzalkonium Chloride may discolour soft contact lenses. Remove contact lenses prior to application and wait at least 15 minutes before re-inserting. For hayfever eye symptoms only. If symptoms may be caused by other allergens (such as pet fur or dust mites), consult your doctor or pharmacist before use. May cause transient eye irritation. Remove contact lenses if applicable. Tilt the head back and gently pull down the lower eyelid to create a small pocket. Gently squeeze the bottle to instil 1 or 2 drops into each eye. Close the eye gently to disperse the drops and wipe away any excess with a clean tissue. Apply 1 to 2 drops into each eye 4 times daily, or as directed by your doctor.
