The Astep Model 2065 Pendant Light is an iconic example of Italian modern lighting, known for its innovative materials and softly diffused illumination. Originally designed in 1950 by pioneering lighting designer Gino Sarfatti and reissued by Astep, the fixture reflects Sarfatti’s experimental approach to lighting during the mid-century era.

The design features two joined saucer-shaped diffusers crafted from opaline methacrylate, forming a wide, disc-like silhouette that appears to float effortlessly in space. Suspended from a slender aluminum canopy, the lightweight material and clean geometry create an elegant pendant that feels both architectural and visually airy. Methacrylate—chosen by Sarfatti as an alternative to traditional glass—offers durability while allowing light to disperse evenly through the shade.

The Model 2065 is illuminated by five dimmable E12 LED bulbs, which work together to produce approximately 2350 lumens of warm 2700K light. This multi-source configuration fills the diffuser evenly, creating soft ambient illumination without harsh glare—ideal for dining areas, living rooms, and design-forward commercial spaces.

Recent editions incorporate Green Cast® recycled PMMA, a sustainable acrylic material that preserves the optical clarity and diffusion qualities of the original design while improving environmental performance.
