An Augmented Reality Trick App For Android and iPhones

Augmented reality is all the rage in the world of smartphones and other wireless devices. This particular augmented reality trick is relatively simple, yet is sure to get a intense reaction from the uninitiated.  The “My Pet Boris” trick borrows some of it’s performance semantics from Jim Pace's popular “The Web” trick. Ian Pidgeon also has other similar popular tricks in this vein like his popular Magic Butterfly trick.

Convince Spectators That A Real Spider Is On Their Hand

The trick itself is positioned as an augmented reality app which is compatible with Android and iPhone smartphone platforms. You place the phone overtop a willing participants palm of back of the hand, which is a highly sensitive part of the body.

The app screen then shows a dangerous looking Australian Redbacked spider (Australian Black Widow) appears to crawl over a real image of the participants hand. In the presentation, a fake spider is then passed to the subjects hand, which they feel and react to.

This is a great opening trick for a small audience, or as a warm up piece for a small gathering of friends. Depending on how extroverted you are, the Magic Spider My Pet Boris, could be a great conversation starter when introducing yourself to strangers.
