Product Description
This champage is a modern masterpiece of restraint and purity — Rosé yet ultra-dry, with crisp minerality and invigorating drive. Louis Roederer’s 2018 Brut Nature Rosé presents refined fruit, vivid freshness and zero dosage, making it both elegant enough for fine dining and bold enough to age gracefully.
Origins & Craftsmanship
Crafted by the venerable house Louis Roederer in collaboration with designer Philippe Starck, this 2018 vintage is part of their “Brut Nature” project: minimal intervention, no added sugar, and maximum expression of terroir. The blend for the Rosé is approximately 54 % Pinot Noir, 25 % Pinot Meunier, 20 % Chardonnay and 1 % Pinot Blanc. A portion of the harvest underwent cold maceration of ripe Pinot Noir bunches to add the rosé hue and depth. The fruit is principally from the Premier Cru village of Cumières, where the Marne Valley soils offer chalky minerality and elegance. Vinification involves a mix of stainless-steel and large oak volumes, with no malolactic fermentation and extended lees ageing before disgorgement — all to emphasise purity, tension and finesse.
Critics Reviews
-
According to Decanter, the 2018 Brut Nature Rosé “shows radiant fruit and crystalline salinity… a model of tension and luminosity in this collaboration”.
-
From the press file: the Rosé is described as “fabulously fresh, with a clean, vibrant fruit, cool mineral-driven character and fine sculpted texture”.
-
Another source notes that the blend and style are “strong Pinot Noir inflections and cool, mineral-driven Cumières character… cranberry, white flowers, chalk, game and dried herbs are all finely sculpted.”
Tasting Profile
-
Nose: The bouquet opens with fresh red berry notes—cranberry and raspberry—alongside white flower petals, subtle rose hip and a whisper of smoked tea. Underneath lies chalk and oyster shell minerality, soft spice and a gently perfumed herbal edge.
-
Palate: Crisp and focused. Tart red berry fruit flows into firm structure and vibrant acidity, joined by hints of pear skin, quince and orange zest. The texture is fine-beaded and pure, with a discreet nutty underpinning and faint oak spice lending complexity without overshadowing freshness.
-
Finish: Precise, long and mouth-watering. The finale echoes crushed stone, saline chalk, dried herb and a last flash of blood orange peel. The zero-dosage treatment leaves no sweetness to soften the finish — instead you feel sheer momentum and refined energy.
