Located near the Eastern Border of Uganda and within the foothills of Mt Elgon, Kawacom Washing Station is the main washing station and collection point for the nearly 2,000 small shareholder farmers in the area. With the average farm size of only 0.2 hectares, these farmers often only grow what little they can for their own consumption. A partnership here means coffee for Lifeboost will be the achievement of an entire community, and therefore is able to have its impact reach just as broadly. Freshly picked coffee is brought to the washing station each day during the peak of harvest. Participating members are paid directly at that time of delivery. This provides funds faster and allows for the quality of the washing to be controlled by a single team in a central location. On the other side of Mt Elgon is Uganda’s neighbor, Kenya. Famous for its coffee across the globe with many flocking to participate in its thriving coffee industry. Despite sharing the same climate, landscape, and same wild growing coffee varieties, Uganda is rarely considered all because of a man made line and the impact that has on commerce and opportunity.
