Planting & Care
1. Planting: Start by selecting an area with full to partial sun – at least 4 hours of sunlight each day. Well-drained soil is also important for your Lacebark to thrive. From there, dig a hole that’s about two or three times the width of your plant’s root ball. Then, place your tree, back fill the soil and water to settle the roots. Finally, adding mulch to the base of your tree will help keep the moisture in and prevent weeds.2. Watering: This tree can tolerate wet or dry conditions, but it’s important to water the tree weekly to ensure proper growth. If it rains, you don't need to water your Lacebark Elm at all. And after a couple of years, you only need to water the tree during very dry spells. If you’re not sure when to water, though, simply check the soil about 2 or 3 inches down. If the soil is dry here, it’s time to water.
3. Pruning: You don't need to prune the Chinese Elm, but we recommend removing dead bark and branches in the fall for best results.
