Comparison is the thief of joy. It robs us of seeing our own accomplishments as something to be proud of, too. While you’re thinking about how that person in your life is getting a promotion and married, someone is looking at you, thinking, “Wow, I wish I was where they are.” There’s always going to be someone or something that’s ahead of us – that does not mean that we’re not just as special.
There’s only one you. There’s only one person that’s going to experience all of your feelings at the exact same moment as you, take the exact same steps as you, think and do everything that you do. That’s YOU! It’s easy to get trapped in an endless loop of “they’re so awesome because of XYZ,” but the really cool thing is that there is and always will be one you. You may have a twin, triplets, or many lookalikes, but everyone has qualities unique to them that no one else can replicate. Isn’t that incredible?
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t compare myself to others too, but it’s vital that you realize how special you are. Yes, that person is doing great things, but so are you. Think how lucky this world is to have you in it. There won’t be another time such as this, so I hope you appreciate how amazing you are.
