Product Description
Kevin Kemter, born Berlin 1984. Studied at the Berlin University of Arts (UdK). Lives and works in Berlin. Kemter’s focus is on drawing, and follows a regimented format of enamel pen on paper that attempt to convey stubborn escapes from reality, blue skies and the harsh-ness of the city. His drawings have a set of rules which are always followed in one way or another - usually starting with a landscape: a blue sky, green grass, yellow sun (always a rectangle with his name written within). Then inside these landscapes, abstract forms will appear, often fleshy, bodily or even sexual that counteract the childliness and break down the game of the juvenile. Ocassionally actual figures almost completely block out the landscape and frequently architectural forms are used, referencing urban infrastructures. Sometimes its just pure abstraction where the viewer cannot make out what is seen. Amongst this mass of objects - there are indicators of belligerent tragedy and surreal dreams in the meadow.
