Dow’s 30 Year Old Tawny Port is a masterpiece of aged Port wine crafted from grapes grown exclusively in “A” classified vineyards like Quinta do Bomfim and Senhora da Ribeira. After three decades in seasoned oak casks, this tawny develops a luminous copper-amber hue framed by a pale orange-green rim. Elegantly saline on the nose, it carries floral violet notes, a hint of cinnamon, and complex layers of nutty oak mingling with quince, citrus peel, and toasted nuts. On the palate, it's luxuriously silky and rich—think dates, figs, golden raisins, toffee, and praline—yet maintains a graceful dryness and tea-leaf nuance on the finish. Boasting scores over 94 from Wine Spectator, Wine Advocate, James Suckling, and Wine Enthusiast (95 WS/95 JS/94 WE/93 WA), it impresses with power, elegance, and restraint. "Fresh and focused, with a mix of peach cobbler, dried white nectarine, cinnamon and bitter almond notes all zipped up with a bitter orange thread on the finish. Delicious. It is here in the lineup that you get a livelier Porto with a fine expression of fruit—but also a bit more of a brandy nuance, just a bit. It is a bit woody as well. The "old tawny" flavors then mingle with the brandy to create a dry and very serious feel. Still, this powerful tawny is gripping on the finish, intense and long. There's a spicy nuance on the fresh and juicy finish that I just loved. The fruit is nicely lifted, and it just seems very fresh. It was pretty delicious and surprisingly refreshing when tasted two days later. In the new Dow lineup, this might be the liveliest and the brightest, the one with the freshest feel.
