Product Description

This 2021 “Les Chênes” from Domaine Leflaive is a beautifully expressive white Burgundy at the regional level—rich yet refined, it delivers bright orchard fruit, fine minerality and an elegance that belies its appellation. A compelling example of estate-level craftsmanship applied outside major grand-cru status.

Origins & Craftsmanship

The wine originates from the Mâcon-Verzé appellation in the south of Burgundy, sewn into clay-limestone soils of the Verzé valley on gently sloped terrain. The “Les Chênes” parcel was acquired by Domaine Leflaive in 2003 and consists of mature vines (some up to 85 years old) planted on shallow soils above bedrock. The grapes are hand-harvested and pressed in Verze, then transported to the Puligny-Montrachet estate for vinification. Fermentation is divided between stainless steel and concrete vats, with a small portion in new oak barrels, followed by ageing on fine lees for several months to build texture and depth.

Tasting Profile

Nose: Fresh and inviting with aromas of green apple peel, white peach, lemon zest and honeysuckle. Underlying are subtle notes of fresh pastry and chalky stone, hinting at the terroir’s limestone roots.
Palate: Medium-bodied with crisp but balanced acidity. Flavours of lime-curd, ripe pear and a touch of orchard-plum flesh mingle with a firm mineral core—chalk, crushed stone and a faint saline thread. The oak influence is gentle, contributing textural richness without dominating.
Finish: Clean and lingering, with citrus peel, almond skin and cool stony minerality trailing off. The wine leaves a refreshing lift rather than weight—making it versatile now while promising graceful maturation.
