Product Description
The Del Maguey San Luis del Río Espadín is a beautifully crafted single-village mezcal—smoky yet elegant, with clean citrus and tropical fruit brightness, balanced by a soft creamy texture and earthy depth. It’s ideal for sipping neat and exploring the character of traditional Oaxacan mezcal.
Origins & Craftsmanship
Produced in the village of San Luis del Río, Oaxaca, Mexico, this expression is part of Del Maguey’s Single Village collection. The agave used is 100% Espadín grown locally in that narrow, hot valley along the Rio Hormiga Colorada (“Red Ant River”). The piñas are typically roasted in wood-fired pit ovens using mezquite and other local woods, then crushed, fermented in wooden tubs and distilled in small copper stills. The bottling strength is 47% ABV, and the production is artisanal, reflecting the traditional methods of master distiller Paciano Cruz Nolasco and his son Marcos Cruz Méndez.
Tasting Profile
Nose: Aromas of fresh citrus – lime and grapefruit zest – mingle with sweet roasted agave nectar, light tropical fruit (pineapple), subtle campfire smoke and hints of roasted bell pepper and clay soil.
Palate: Smooth and creamy in texture, the palate offers ripe pineapple and lime upfront, followed by honeyed agave, gentle smoke, warm pepper spice and earthy mineral undertones. There’s a soft suede-like mouthfeel that gives the experience sophistication.
Finish: The finish is clean and lingering, with a warming glow of smoked agave, citrus peel, a hint of sweet herb and a subtle salty-mineral echo. The smoke softens gracefully rather than dominates.
