Bright, Juicy, Bubblegum Flavored Plums
You won’t understand how the Bubblegum ‘Toka’ Plum Tree earned its name until you bite into its fruit. The bright red plum with its salmon-colored flesh tastes just like a rich version of its namesake!
After you get a taste for Toka Plums, you’ll be glad the tree is such a reliable producer, offering a large fruit yield every year. Known as the “pollinator” plum, this tree produces so much pollen that it will even fertilize your other plum trees!
That contribution alone is enough reason to choose the Toka, but this tree offers even more benefits. Developed in chilly South Dakota, the Toka is cold-hardy down to -20 degrees. It'll also flourish in drought conditions and typically doesn't require fertilizing or pruning, making it easy and adaptable!
The Toka is small enough for backyard gardens, though it's also an attractive addition to orchards. It can stand alone or be paired with other plum varieties for a beautiful fruit tree display.
It’s an understatement to say that the Bubblegum ‘Toka’ Plum Tree has it all. Order yours today, and start enjoying its benefits!
Planting & Care
1. Planting: Plant your Toka Plum in well-draining soil and in full to partial sun. Dig a hole that is twice as wide but just as deep as the root ball. Place your tree, backfill your soil and water to settle the roots. Mulch the surrounding soil to conserve moisture.
2. Watering: Water young trees heavily during the first growing season to help promote growth, then water regularly. Best to water deeply at the soil line, let the soil dry out slightly then water again. Do not let the soil become fully dry. Water well into the early autumn, so as to have good soil moisture through the winter.
3. Fertilizing: During the first few years, you can add balanced fertilizer at the beginning of spring. However, it is not necessary to fertilize your tree once it begins to bear fruit. Use a fruit-specific fertilizer or a balanced 10-10-10 formula.
4. Pruning: Your Toka Plum only requires light pruning in winter to get rid of dead branches. You can also do some additional pruning to lighten the branches or maintain a vase shape, but it is not necessary.
