Plush, super moist, with a tender crumb, this cake gets a dose of deep, layered nutty flavor from browned cultured butter. The brown butter perfectly complements bright, vivacious green cardamom, orange zest, and fragrant vanilla. To keep things extra supple, the top of the baked cake is poked all over with a toothpick and then brushed with an orange simple syrup. Everything is topped off with big swooshes of buttercream frosting bolstered with crème fraîche.
The cake is better the day after it’s baked, making it perfect for feast prep leading up to the big day (oven space is precious after all!). That way all you have to do the day of is make the orange simple syrup, frosting, and assemble.
