Blue-Purple Blooms + Easy Growth

Why Blue Agapanthus Plants?

Native to South Africa, this vibrant indigo perennial - also known as the Lily of the Nile or African Lily - adds unbeatable impact and easy-growing color to any landscape.

Five-petaled flower clusters paired with deep-green, spear-like foliage are especially eye-catching in a deep blue-purple hue. These blooms are a favorite of butterflies and hummingbirds, while remaining resistant to deer. Even better? It's simple to grow and maintain, tolerant of drought and many soil conditions. The Agapanthus is a great choice for coastal areas, since it can survive wind and salty air.

Upright stalks will stand out in a flower bed or mixed border, and this perennial makes an excellent addition to patio pots - container planting can actually encourage more blooms! The Agapanthus, or Lily of the Nile, is also perfect for cut flowers. Create bouquets for your home or for friends, all spring and summer long!

Planting & Care

1. Planting: It’s highly adaptable and versatile, but the Agapanthus prefers an area with well-drained soil and 4 to 8 hours of sunlight per day. Once you’ve found your location, dig a hole that’s about one to two times the width of your plant’s root ball. If you’re planting in a container, select one that is about one and a half times the width of your plant. After digging, place your plant, backfill your soil and water to settle the roots.

2. Watering: Depending on the rainfall in your area, your newly planted Agapanthus should be watered once or twice weekly. After the plant is established, water once every week or once every two weeks. If you’re not sure when to water, simply check the surrounding soil about 2 to 3 inches down – if it’s dry, it’s time to water.

3. Fertilizing: Apply an all-purpose fertilizer to your Agapanthus once in the springtime and then again in the summer while it’s growing.

4. Pruning: Removing spent blossoms will promote more flowering.
